Advan With A Twist

Supra First Pic

TRD 3000GT Supra; Advan Livery

The owner of this super rare TRD 3000GT Supra struck a sponsorship deal with Yokohama, in part due to the proposed livery that we had come up with; a traditional style Advan livery, but with a twist as the car is white, not the usual black. It would require a full rear end wrap in a metallic red to match the wheels and then the adding of the logos. We chose not to wrap the front bumper, but came up with a design for the bonnet to keep the theme moving forward. Everything was agreed and the car was dropped off for work to begin.

Making a Start

The rear end wrap was the meat of this job, so the obvious place to start. Rear lights, bumper reflectors and the spoiler were removed then it was full steam ahead. With the rounded shape it was a case of working out what inlays or overlays were needed before the bit pieces of wrap were applied.

Rear Bumper And Onto The Sides

Still plenty of wrapping to be done at this stage; rear bumper and the sides to do. Was a bit complicated once more but with some necessary heating and some tension applied it came together. Again knifeless tape was used to sort the inlays first.

Home stretch

With the back end wrap now complete it was a case of finishing off the side stripes and adding the logos. With the many curves of the car it was easier applying knifeless tape down the lines of the stripes than it would have been using a straight cut piece of vinyl, especially around the vents in front of the rear wheels. The logos were then a simple job to complete the look.

Out and About

Unfortunately it was never sunny for my photos of the car, but it soon came out and the car was at many meets and shows. The red really pops in the sun and the car looks really good.

The Beginning

This was a first for Skewer, it was my first livery to include full on wrapping, not just application of graphics, and one of the first to receive the signature graphic. It was quite a job, with ups and downs, probably used twice as much vinyl as was needed, and a lot of time, but was the first in Skewer's progression. It did return for a few tweeks and improvements in the fine details. As you now see from the other liveries featured the wrapping elements have improved and the ideas are always flowing. The car was already pleasant in it's orignal all white with the red wheels. That said, the livery was going to transform it massively.

Design Beauty

An icon

The TRD 3000GT bodywork design is a thing of beauty, with it's smoothly extended arches, aggressive front bumper, vented front wings, and the much copied quad vented bonnet.
