Road Going Rally Car

GR Yaris First Pic

2021 Toyota Yaris GR-Four; Marlboro Livery

The Yaris GR is a great little car, and return to turbo 4WD WRC pedigree for Toyota not seen since the Corolla WRC inthe late 90's. Customer was set on a Marlboro livery from the beginning so it was simply a case of picking the vinyls and working out the design. The original image that was sent over needed some amendments, but we were soon ready to go. The car itself is a nice pearl metallic red, so we went with a matching pearl metallic white for the base wrap, onto which metallic colours would be added for the logos.

Making a Start

Needed to sort the base wrap first so started with the trickiest part - the front bumper. This required the headlights and bumper to be removed, followed by stripping the bumper back to the bare skin. Knifeless tape was used to sort the edges then the wrap went on and was trimmed up before everything was put back together. The bonnet followed, creating a nice straight vertical edge from the front quarters. The rear was fairly simple, only needed the number plate and badges removing. Sides were relatively easy after we'd settled on a design with the Marlboro logo sitting where the door handles are, that was then pre-cut from the wrap before applying which saved having to wrap the handles!

Adding The Logos

With the base wrap complete it was then a case of sorting and adding all the logos, which is a case of sorting placement, spacing, colours and sizes. As always, keeping a limited number of colours in the pallet always looks best, more 'designed'. Simple case of metallic black over the pearl white, and more of the pearl white over the red. Another colour needed was metallic yellow, which I had to get from the US in the end, but was needed for some of the logos and was nice to break up the colour a little.

The customers' own Modzilla Automotive logo was included, together with logos of various other mods on the car, and a bit of Skewer was thrown in on the side door number cards and a one off decal on the bonnet. As always, the Graphics by Mook signature logo was added to the rear screen

Finishing Touches

We left the roof clear of any graphics as the owner is going to have the carbon weave wrap removed and the oem forged carbon roof lacquered and polished up. To match in with that we added a pair of Skewer's carbon fibre number plates, with a new reg., this time using a matching forged carbon.

Inspiration

The process begins

Initial render

When intially making contact the customer of this rather fine GR Yaris sent me this image and stated they wanted something like this. Always a good starting point to have something to go at, then design can be finessed to make it perfect.

Additional render

Following on from the first inspiration image, I found this GT86 render. A similar, slightly more traditional Marlboro design which had the logo over the door handles and more sweeping flowing side stripes. This and the first image above went together to form the basis of this livery.
