Making The Virtual Real

Integra DC5 First Pic

2002 Honda Integra DC5; Forza Livery

I've always had a soft spot for the Integra Type R, so when the chance came up to sort a livery for this very nice silver example I jumped at the chance. The owner supplied a few pics of a render of some graphics from Forza, with a basic requirement of "I want that one". Another requirement was for large Tegiwa logos for the sides as a new sponshorship deal was being put in place with the company. We went back and forth a few times honing the ideas and finalising the colour and logo choices before the vehicle was dropped down and work could begin.

Making a Start

Once again the wrap elemts were done first. An easy initial part was wrapping the edges of the carbon bonnet. As tends to be the case with carbon bonnets, they do tend to look just plonked on and they detract from the lines of the car. So by doing the edges and following the contours of the bonnet, we can regain those nice flowing lines of the lights and wings, while still showing off the majority of the weave.

The remaining wrap parts were a bit more tricky as the flowing curved sections needed to be pre-cut, with overlap, before laying on the car. Then when fitting care needed to be taken not to pull the vinyls out of shape. With due care and attention this was completed on the sides, rear and tailgate, getting the lines flowing nicely together with the mix of charcoal and black over the silver base. The spoiler blade was wrapped and some logos were added there, as well as the rear screen.

The Home Stretch

The last bit of wrapping was the toughest; the rear bumper. It took several inlays in the tailgate catch section and the number plate recess, then a final single piece three meters long to wrap around the whole bumper in one section. The curve of the rear face into the sides allowed a little gather to help get into the rear light recesses, but it took a bit of fiddling to get it all in. Everything was tucked with plenty of overlap on the rear, and careful post heat to get everything cured in place.

With the rear bumper done, adding all the logos was a pleasant and quick finishing off. A 'patch' of carbon fibre wrap was added around the exhaust recess in the bumper to add an extra touch there, and everything else fell nicely into place. As it should when it goes to plan!

The car before work started. Quite the transformation here, shows just how much a livery can change the character and stance of the vehicle.

Inspiration

The process begins

Initial render

The owner of this Teg had a vision in mind, this render of a liveried DC5 in Forza and wanted to use it as inspiration for the future livery. This render is of a white one, whereas theirs is silver, so we needed to amend the colour pallet slightly, but nothing that can't be sorted.
